Interests
Welcome to my personal interests area! Here you will
find what I like to do in my spare time. I have many interests
away from the sheriff’s department
The Internet
My favorite pastime is playing around on the internet. I have
discovered that I can just about find anything that I want if
I put a little effort into locating the topic. My wife and I
like to purchase things online. Some really great sites are Amazon.com, Cdnow.com,
and PC Connection.
If caution and common sense is used you can get some really good
deals online. Another fun thing to do online is download things.
My favorites are Download.com
and Softseek.
SCUBA Diving
SCUBA (Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus) diving
is a great way for a person to relax. I have been a PADI (Professional
Association of Diving Instructors) certified underwater diver
since 1994. I was certified at the Minnesota
School of Diving, located in Brainerd. I dive mostly in area
lakes for recreational purposes. The visibility sometimes is
not the greatest but I have learned to adapt. I like to dive
is depths around 20 feet. I have discovered that I can see a
lot of underwater life around that depth (hint hint fishermen!!).
The temperature gets really cold around 26 to 30 feet. That is
where the thermocline is located. I would definitely recommend
anyone who may have the slightest interest in SCUBA diving to
contact their closest diving school. Ask if they have an introductory
program to give people a chance to learn more about diving. Most
centers have such a program that includes a pool dive to see
if diving would be for you.
Snowmobiling
Snowmobiling in "God’s County" is a great way
to relax. Snowmobiling is very popular in this part of the state.
Living in central Minnesota definitely has its advantages! Going
on long rides with friends or family is a great way to see the
area and to enjoy its beauty. Minnesota is well known for its
abundance of groomed and well maintained trails. There are many
different types of snowmobiles that are made. The two most popular
are Arctic Cat and Polaris.
Ambulance
Service
I am a member of the Remer Area Ambulance Service. This is the
local ambulance service that is entirely made up of volunteers.
I have been a member since moved to the area in 1997. I get a
lot of satisfaction in volunteering with the service. When I
arrive on a scene I am not automatically considered the "enemy"
as I am sometimes labeled when I am working for the sheriff’s
department. Helping out people when they need it most gives me
and all of the other volunteers a great deal of satisfaction.
Living and working in a small rural area really gives a person
a sense of pride.
